RACE RELATIONS MINISTRY

"In Christ there is no difference between Jew and Greek, slave and free person, male and female.  You are all the same in Christ Jesus."
                                                         Galatians 3:28

Our Purpose:

"Centered in Christ, we will extend God’s word of love to all."

Vision:

We strive to build bridges of understanding not only among races but  also among various cultures and religions.

"You are joined together with peace through the Spirit, so make every effort to continue together in this way. There is one body and one Spirit, and God called you to have one hope." (Ephesians 4:3-4)

The ministry of all Christians is complementary.  No ministry is subservient to another. As Christians we are called together and sent by Christ to live and work together and are guided by the Holy Spirit into the truth that frees and the love that reconciles us to God.

People that work publicly and privately toward a genuine multicultural and diverse society will make a difference. Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, being "Centered in Christ," acknowledges people are different from one another in many ways – age, gender, education, values, physical ability, mental capacity, personality, experience in culture, and the way each approach approaches work.

True multiculturalism and diversity means "extending God's word of love to all" by acknowledging, understanding and appreciating differences. We make every effort to create an atmosphere that recognizes, values and employs the unique qualities and gifts of all persons.

Actions:

v Learning what is happening in the community regarding religion and race by attending events of another race or religion.

v Modeling inclusiveness by hosting events of another race and by inviting persons/groups from a variety of racial/ethnic groups.

v Leading study/dialogue groups involving participants of more than one  race.

v Planning ways to learn about and celebrate the cultural gifts and heritage of African  Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, and European Americans, such as guest speakers at a potluck dinner, video programs, and field trips.

v Working with Fremont’s Citizens Advisory Committee to address racial tensions.

v Developing cooperative ministries with congregations of another racial/ethnic group.
