COMMUNICATION MINISTRY

Centered in Christ, we will extend God’s word of love to all, this is our mission. Among the primary words in our mission statement is extend. Another word for “extend” is to communicate. To extend is to communicate. Centered in Christ we will communicate to God the radiance of his worth in worship, communicating our love for one another in nurture, and communicating the truth of the gospel to the world in witness.

We communicate every time we preach, teach, share, sing, rejoice, disciple, admonish, serve, encourage or act by "speaking to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs..." (Eph.5:19). As the psalmist declared, "I believed; therefore I have spoken" (Ps 116:10). Communication is at the center of the gospel. Communication is at the center of our mission statement.

In the 21st century, the church is faced with the enormous challenge of bridging a 2000-year gap between the world of the Bible and the world in which we live, in order that the message spoken to us by God might be preserved and rightly heard. At Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, we are tremendously concerned about hearing what God has to say to us in order that we might proclaim this all-important message to others. As Paul asked, "How can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?" (Rom 10:14). For this reason, we place such a heavy price tag on good communication. We value communication because God is all-valuable.

Our emphasis at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church is on good communication, and the need for a Communications Ministry has emerged in several tangible expressions. Although still in need of more definitive structure, we have seen the rise in various communication-based ministries, across multiple mediums: print-based, audio-based, and electronic-based:

In the coming months, we hope that you would join us in praying that God might clarify his vision for our Communications Ministry at Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church, and that the tangible expressions of this ministry that have already emerged would be better equipped to facilitate the God-exalting task of speaking what we believe for God's glory and our joy. Print Publications
Everything from our weekly bulletin to our monthly newsletter, or from something as simple as church stationary to the more involved full-color pictorial brochure, our in-house print publications team is busy ensuring that our singular passion for God is communicated with accuracy and with excellence, regardless of the medium.

Audio Publications
Since "faith comes from hearing the Good News, and people hear the Good News when someone tells them about Christ" (Rom.10:17), our audio publications team is primarily concerned with creating as many avenues as possible for the preaching and teaching of the word of God to be heard clearly, whether through advanced sound capturing and enhancement within the context of our services, or through quality reproductions such as tapes or other audio publications.

Electronic Publications
In an age of electronic communications, one of the highest priorities of the church today is to stay in touch with the ways in which our culture transmits and receives information. Our electronic publications team not only maintains and supports our website and other forms of electronic communication, but also works hard at considering the myriad ways in which these and other technological media shape our understanding of the truth of the gospel.
